Kia Ora, I am Jarad Chittenden and I started my role as the Principal at Auroa School in 2016.

I have a young family with two girls, one of which is about to start school shortly.  They both keep Paula and myself busy throughout the day, and night.  I enjoy playing a variety of musical instruments, such as the guitar, drums, and piano.  I also try to keep active through playing football and netball, as well as taking the odd run every other week.

I believe as educators it is our role to engage students in their learning and provide them with experiences that motivate them to learn.  Through making connections to what students learn at school and what is happening around them we can hook them into learning, and make learning relevant to their lives.

Room 7 Year 1/2
Hi my name is Shelley Berry and I’ve been teaching for 10 years. I grew up in Marton, and have spent the last 11 years in Wellington. I completed my Psychology Major and Diploma of Primary Teaching there. My first four years were spent teaching at Karori Normal School, and the last four years were at Owhiro Bay School, where I was acting Deputy Principal. During my 10 years I have taught levels NE through to year 6.

I am passionate about teaching and learning. My goal is to have children enjoy school and be switched onto learning through motivating them, and encouraging them to follow their interests. I understand that learning can be challenging for some students, and I always endeavour to teach in a way that suits their learning style. I have spent three years as a Reading Recovery teacher. It is this experience that gave me a real love for junior reading. Making progress with the children is what spurs me to be a teacher!

Sport has been a big part of my life since childhood. I started Smallbore Rifle Shooting when I was 12 and have been in the New Zealand Junior and Ladies Teams. I represented New Zealand at the Oceania Games in 2001. I have also played hockey on and off over the years, and I am a terrible surfer; but I am working on this! Art and dance are also keen interests of mine.

I am married, and have a 3 year old son. My family and I have moved to South Taranaki for a lifestyle change. I love teaching at Auroa School.

Room 6 Year 2/3

Hi, I'm Miss McLachlan and I am super excited to be teaching in Room 6 this year. I grew up in Lower Hutt where I lived with my mum, dad and big brother. In 2014 I moved to Christchurch to begin my teaching degree.

I have just finished my studies at the University of Canterbury and I am thrilled to start my first year teaching at Auroa School. I love teaching all of the curriculum areas but I am most passionate about The Arts (especially dance and drama) and Literacy.

In my spare time, you might find me playing netball, rock and roll dancing, hanging out with friends and family or at the beach. I am delighted to be moving back to the North Island, although I am a bit sad that I have to leave Monty (my fluffy little dog) at home with my parents in Christchurch.

I look forward to getting to know everyone in the Auroa School community!
